Opening ceremonies, which included laying wreaths to honor fallen American soldiers and the tolling of bells from the bell tower at the First United Methodist Church, were centered at the World War I Monument Circle.

Peter Hogaboom, Master of Ceremonies, thanked Grand Marshal Miller and “all of our veterans” for their service to our country.

“I ask all of you to pay tribute to the fallen, not just today but every day,” remarked Mayor Andy Skibitsky.

Kerry Stubs sang the National Anthem and “God Bless America.” “Echo Tapps” was performed by Ted Schlosberg from the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts and Westfield High School student Dale Beyert.

Afterward, the parade moved up East Broad St. to Fairview Cemetery. All were invited to attend American Legion Post #3’s free barbecue after the parade.
