The Inca civilization, history and its culture prompted Lisa Wendel to hike to the Peruvian lost city of Machu Picchu which will be her topic at the First Wednesday Luncheon of Westfield Historical Society on June 4th at 12 PM at Echo Lake Country Club, 515 Springfield Avenue in Westfield, NJ.
The Inca Empire dates from the 1200’s until it was conquered by the Spanish colonization of South America in the 1500’s. In her yearning to learn more about this civilization and its people, Lisa endured a 4 day - 35 mile hike up to 14,000 feet resulting in quite a challenging but captivating experience. Machu Picchu, meaning “Old Peak” was built by the Incas in the 15th century and remains one of the most beautiful and enigmatic sites of the ancient world.
