Westfield High School senior Fraser Weist won the $1000 Grand Prize in the Harmonium High School Choral Composition contest for the second consecutive year. His composition, Musica Dei Donum Optimi, was performed and recorded live at Harmonium's spring concerts on June 7 and 8 at Grace Episcopal Church in Madison, New Jersey. Harmonium is a classical choral society whose annual contest is open to all students enrolled in grades nine through twelve in any public or private school in the State of New Jersey and to all students who are legal residents of New Jersey participating in home schooling at the high-school level.

A panel of judges consisting of professional musicians, composers, and music educators select the winning compositions. Entries are required to be a newly composed piece set for mixed chorus. Fraser, who will be attending Harvard University, also was named a Presidential Scholar finalist in two categories -- the only high school student in the country receiving two distinctions.  He recently received the Distinguished Student award at Westfield High School and is pictured being congratulated for his many accomplishments by Westfield High School Principal Peter Renwick.
