WESTFIELD, NJ - The Student Government Association (SGA) at Westfield High School was recognized for raising the second highest amount of donations of all high schools in New Jersey for the charity Good Grief.

An organization that helps children and their families cope with loss, Good Grief was chosen by officers of the New Jersey Association of Student Councils (NJASC) as the 2011-12 recipient of high school fundraising throughout New Jersey.

Westfield High School raised $6,000 through various school events like car washes, sports tournaments and the annual Dance-a-thon. The students, as well as advisors Liz Schultz and Michele Spreitzer, were awarded a plaque and a trophy during the NJASC year-end conference at Six Flags. Next year Westfield High School’s SGA will be raising funds for the new NJASC state charity, Hugs for Brady, an organization dedicated to the research of pediatric cancer.
