Westfield High School’s weekly student-run newspaper, Hi’s Eye, has been named a finalist in the 2013 National Scholastic Press Association’s (NSPA) Pacemaker competition. It is the only student newspaper in New Jersey and one of six in the entire country considered a finalist for school newspapers consisting of eight pages or less.
According to the NSPA, “Since 1927, the Pacemaker has been the highest honor NSPA gives to its members. Pacemakers are judged independently by a team of journalism professionals. Judges select Pacemakers based upon the following criteria: coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership design, photography and graphics.”
More than 300 entries overall were submitted for consideration. “It is a real honor to be nominated,” stated Rosemary DiBattista, who together with Nicole Simone is an advisor for Hi’s Eye.
