WESTFIELD, NJ — After a day that some might call downright balmy, on Jan. 6 the National Weather Service issued a wind chill advisory for the area from midnight until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7. Wind chill values could go as low as 15 degrees below zero, according to the service, and rapidly falling temperatures will cause any residual moisture on roadways to freeze and create black ice, mainly on secondary roadways.

Mayor Andy Skibitksy said that the town of Westfield received 150 tons of salt on Saturday in anticipation of more winter weather. As temperatures drop, he asks that residents help one another as they have in the past.

“As always with extreme weather conditions, it’s very important that we check on our neighbors, especially those who are housebound or maybe are not 100 percent physically healthy,” said Skibitksy. “Hopefully we’ll get through this cold spell very quickly.”
