WESTFIELD, NJ—As a new bond referendum vote draws near, Westfield's Board of Education has posted a presentation on the district's homepage, http://www.westfieldnjk12.org, explaining the details behind a proposed plan to fix the schools' dilapidated roofs, some of which were further damaged by Superstorm Sandy. To read it, click here. Westfield residents will have the opportunity December 11 to vote for or against the more than $13 million bond referendum.

According to Westfield Public Schools, if the roofing bond fails, $4 million will be reallocated from the operating budget for each of the next three or four years for the necessary roof replacement project. If this were to occur, the operating budget–which is subject to a cap by the state–would not be able to sustain the educational and co-curricular offerings that now exist.

The next Board of Education meeting will take place tomorrow, Nov. 27, at 7:30 p.m. at 302 Elm Street.
