The Westfield Area Y is hosting their first Special Health Groups Activity Day on Tuesday, March 5th at the Main Y Facility located at 220 Clark Street in Westfield from 8:30 am – 2:40 pm, individuals who are dealing with such as Parkinson’s disease, Cancer, Diabetes, Osteoporosis or Arthritis can attend in the morning, afternoon or the entire day.

The event is FREE, includes lunch and is open to the community. The day will begin with a Meet and Greet, coffee and tours and features instructors who are certified and experienced in teaching these specialty classes.  There will be opportunities to try the classes and speak one-on-one with the instructors.  Medical professionals are invited and encouraged to attend, as exercise has been proven to have a positive physical and emotional effect on people dealing with these issues. Please wear comfortable clothing and sneakers if you would like to participate in a demo class.

“Research has shown that regular exercise can have a very positive impact on people dealing with physiological and neurological impairments and in some cases, can even reverse the effects of the symptoms,” states Greg Hatzisavvas, Westfield Area Senior Director of Wellness/Member Engagement. “Additionally, the social component of these programs is a very powerful tool in maintaining their mental and emotional well being.  There is nothing like being with people who really understand what you’re going through.”

Lunch will be served at noon, giving everyone an opportunity to sit down and share information and get to know each other.  After lunch, there will be another session of information and class demos, similar to the morning’s offerings.
