WESTFIELD, NJ — On Wednesday night, seventh grade students at the Westfield Area Y participated in the 5th Annual UnitedHealthcare Health Bee, a quiz competition focused on nutrition, exercise, health and science. Winning teams will receive money from UnitedHealthcare for their school to support programs that combat childhood obesity.

In first place was the team from Orange Avenue School in Cranford, which will receive $1,000. Lincoln School in Garwood came in second place and will receive $500. St. Michael's School in Cranford won the School Spirit Award and will get $250.

Over the past five years, the UnitedHealthcare Health Bee has become an integral part of the Westfield Y’s Seventh Grade Initiative, which aims to help children build healthy habits at a critical time in their development. Throughout the year, students gather together to learn about fitness, nutrition, positive body image and self esteem. Students may also use the pool, gym and fitness equipment at the Y for free. The Health Bee is a fun celebration of the knowledge and healthy habits students have gained throughout the year and will last them a lifetime.
