The Westfield Area Y is pleased to announce FREE TRX Suspension Training class will be offered on New Year’s Day from 11:00 am – 11:30 am and at Noon-12:30 pm. Each demo class is limited to the first 12 participants.
Beginning January 2, 2012 the Y will offer TRX Suspension Training classes on a regular basis. Participants interested in taking the class can do so on Mondays at 12:30 pm and 7:00 pm, Tuesdays at 6:00 am, Wednesdays at 12:30 pm and 8:00 pm, Fridays at 8:00 pm, Saturday at 6:45 am and Sunday at 11:00 am. All classes will be held at the Main Y Facility located at 220 Clark Street in the Weldon Room. The Weldon Room is a large, airy aerobic space that is ideal for this type of training.
Designed by a former Navy Seal, TRX Suspension Training is an approach to fitness training that uses a system of ropes and webbing called a "suspension trainer" to allow the user to work against his or her own body weight. Using the TRX, a variety of multi-planar, compound exercise movements can be performed. These are done with the aim of developing strength, balance, flexibility and joint stability simultaneously.
According to Lynne Applebaum, Westfield Area Y Associate Health and Wellness Director, “Exercisers of all abilities can gain measurable strength, flexibility and balance using the TRX system. It is truly a brilliant device that enables one to work different planes of motion efficiently and safely. To make the most gains, it is recommended one should try to do this kind of training twice a week if possible.”
Registration is going on now and classes will be open to members and non-members of the Westfield Area Y. For more information, contact Lynne Applebaum at (908) 233-2700 X239 or email lapplebaum@westfieldynj.org.
