WEST ORANGE, NJ - The weather cooperated yesterday with the Public Relations Commission as they sponsored the Annual Town Picnic held at West Orange High School. Hundreds of residents, town employees, school board members, township commissions, and community organizations turned out to enjoy the great weather, pizza, hot dogs, ice cream, giveaways, prizes, and more.
The fire department was on hand to let the young ones check out a real fire engine; and EMS had an ambulance. Kids were treated to face painting, games sponsored by the REC department and DJ Dan Duca, who is also a science teacher at the high school. Residents could check out the many community organizations that work so hard to make West Orange a great place to live. A team of West Orange High School students volunteered their time.
Each year the Public Relations Commission, which is comprised of volunteers, organizes the town picnic with Jessica Glicker, Town Information Officer, and other township departments. Volunteers get much of the food donated or at a low price from various vendors in town. Several gift certificates were donated from local hotels for overnight stays or dinner. The picnic was originally held in the past as a gathering for new residents, but it has been expanded to include all residents. New opportunities for community service and activities that individuals and families can participate in keep community spirit strong in West Orange.
The picnic, which was held from 12-3 pm, ended with a flurry of raindrops that couldn't dampen the good spirits of all who attended! We'll post some more photos later this week.
