Mayor Parisi made the following comment: "The curfew ... is not an attack on anyone's liberties but an attempt to provide our emergency personnel with another level of authority to provide everyone's safety. With no power, no lights on in homes and no street lights, neighborhoods are extremely, extremely dark and combined with storm debris and LIVE wires on the ground, there exists a significant risk of harm. We believe it

is in everyone's interest to remain at home after dark for the next several days. Combine this with the fact that, regrettably, people often seek these circumstances to take advantage of people and there have been reports of people attempting to gain entry into people's home posing as emergency/PSEG personnel, we thought it best to insure that people are off the streets. Additionally, as township and PSEG work around the clock to repair the damage and return power to homes, there is no real need to be walking the streets. If residents are frequenting businesses, there will not be a problem but we do not want, for everyone's safety, people walking around dark neighborhoods. I invite anyone to call me at 973-243-5500 to discuss any matters. However, I stand by our decision to implement this temporary measure as we struggle to return everyone's lives to as normal as possible."

Also, residents are reporting difficulties in getting gas for their vehicles and generators.  The Linden refinery is under water.  Gas stations without power have gas but cannot pump it.  Gas stations with power are running out of gas.  The Alternative Press will provide updates as they are received.
