West Orange Team 'Mo Wo' Reaches $10,000 Goal

WEST ORANGE, NJ - Members of team "Mo Wo" celebrated at the Pour House Pub on Main Street on Dec. 1 as Movember came to a close and the team surpassed their fund raising goal of $10,000. The money will be used to bring awareness of men's health issues and fund research.
Resident Perry Bashkoff was the team leader for Team Mo Wo and helped to recruit community members to participate by growing mustaches and donating.
Bashkoff said "After a month of mustaches in West Orange, NJ, Movember comes to a close. During the first year, the team raised over $10,000. What an amazing accomplishment and what a great positive campaign for the town. Thanks to everyone for their dedication and hard work."
In Movember men grow their mustaches and as people start noticing, it opens the door to talk about why. The Movember movement "is about accelerating outcomes for men that will change and save lives now. We focus on funding collaborative programs on a national and global level that are in line with our vision. To date, through the power of the mustache, Movember has funded 577 with our men’s health partners in 21 countries. Globally, we focus on the areas of awareness and education, living with and beyond cancer, prostate and testicular cancer research, and men’s mental health. We’re privileged to work with some of the best scientific minds and world-class organizations," notes the Movember website.
The Pour House was abuzz with team members last night, including Mayor Robert Parisi, who sported a healthy looking moustache of his own. Movember began with a shaving event at 8 to 8 Barbershop on Nov. 1. Parisi also appeared on NBC news to talk about West Orange's efforts.
Although most of the Movember moustaches will be gone by today, the effort will stay with the participants for a long time to come. More than $11,000 was raised and plans are already in the works for next year.
