WEST ORANGE, NJ - West Orange loves its senior citizens! The following information was provided by the Office of Mayor Robert D. Parisi.

Senior Citizen Services at the Health Center

Residents who are 60 years of age and older may participate in the following services:

  • Nursing Assessment -- Screenings for hypertension, diabetes, hearing deficits, and urological problems. Health problems are monitored via physician requests.
  • Home Nursing Visits -- Nursing assessments and maintenance to homebound seniors are performed. Referrals are made to appropriate agencies for supportive and supplemental care. This service is partially funded by the Essex County Division of Senior Services.
  • Vision Screenings -- Screenings for visual acuity, tests for glaucoma and cataracts, and refractions are offered to seniors who are financially eligible.
  • Podiatry Care -- Evaluation & treatment of foot disorders by a podiatrist for income-eligible residents. Medicare assignment is accepted.

Senior Swim Aerobics

The popular Senior Swim Aerobics program returns this summer at the Ginny Duenkel Pool. Call Senior Services at (973) 325-4105 for details.

Community Medical Education Lectures at the JCC

The Barnabas Wellness Institute at the JCC, 760 Northfield Ave, presents a full range of health education and wellness programs. These programs are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required by calling (973) 322-5620. Upcoming sessions include:

Staying Healthy: How to Best Utilize the Time Spent with your Medical Professionals

Wed, June 11, 11am-12 noon

Kimberly Bohs, MSN, RN, NC-P of Associates in Internal Medicine will share what to expect from a medical appointment, how to  best use the time spent with a professional, and what documents to bring with you. 

Macular Degeneration 2014:  A Shifting Paradigm

Tues, June 17, 7pm-8pm

Eric D. Kanter, MD will present the latest in the pharmacological and surgical battle to prevent vision loss in patients with age-related macular degeneration.

 

Mayor Robert Parisi is a lifelong resident of West Orange, NJ and was elected as Mayor in May of 2010. Prior to his election as Mayor, he served on the Township Council for 12 years. He is married to his wife Sheila, and has two children, Kelly, who will be attending college in the fall of 2014, and Robert, who will be a junior at West Orange High School.
