WEST ORANGE, NJ - West Orange resident and Health and Fitness dynamo CC Minton has been selected to receive a President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition (PCFSN) Community Leadership Award.
Each year, recipients of the award include individuals or organizations who improve the lives of others within their community by providing or enhancing opportunities to engage in sports, physical activities, fitness or nutrition-related programs.
"I am extremely honored and so grateful to receive the the 2014 Community Leadership Award from the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition," said Minton. "I've enjoyed working with so many organizations, including the Junior League of Montclair-Newark, Inc. and Restore Life, LLC."
Minton received the award for over 10 years of community advocacy on health, nutrition and wellness, including Advocate with The President’s Challenge; 50th Anniversary Partner to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports; work with the West Orange Boys and Girls Club; Teen Health and Nutrition Initiative; and the Childhood Obesity Forum. She is also a current member of the West Orange Board of Education Wellness Committee, a community partner with the USDA, an Advocate with the President’s Challenge and a Sustainer with the Junior League.
“CC Minton has worked to consistently promote the importance of physical activity, sports and/or good nutrition throughout the community,” says Shellie Pfohl, executive director of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition.
“Because of CC’s efforts and contributions, the West Orange community and the surrounding area can embrace a healthier and more active lifestyle. Together we are all working to make our nation a healthier one.”
Said Steve Melendez, Edison Middle School Assistant Principal and Chairman of the Health and Wellness Committee, "CC is a vital part of the West Orange School District's Wellness Committee."
He continued, "Her upbeat energy is contagious. CC was instrumental in developing our current Health and Wellness Essay Spotlight Program. We are fortunate and extremely grateful to have CC on our Committee. There is no one more deserving of the Community Leadership Award, and our committee is very proud of her accomplishment."
Forty-four recipients across the nation received this year's President’s Council Community Leadership Award for making sports, physical activity, fitness, and nutrition-related programs available in their communities.
In addition to CC's efforts with the Health and Wellness Committee and community organizations, she also authored a children's book "Daddy's Greek Potato Pie
," about a healthy pie recipe created by her husband Doug; and she is the CEO of Crave the Lifestyle, a healthy nutrition-based organization that has also enjoyed partnership with the 2014 Super bowl
at the Meadowlands and Supreme Bakery in West Orange.
"I'm excited about my future endeavors which include food, fitness and fun," said Minton.
She continued, "I look forward to touring the country with Daddy's Greek Potato Pie, and speaking to parents and children about "playing to win" when it comes to business and sports."
Not to be outdone, Minton continues to expand into other entrepreneurial venues.
