WEST ORANGE, NJ - This summer is full of exciting activities in our community. New Jersey is turning 350 and we're celebrating in a big way.
America's greatest inventor, Thomas Edison, played a pivotal role in shaping American culture. And like you & I, he was proud to call West Orange home. So on Saturday, June 7, we'll be hosting one huge event -- Edison Day -- to showcase the very best our town has to offer and to wish our home state a happy birthday.
This historic celebration will include the annual Town Picnic and the Downtown Street Fair, as well as a full day of live music, dancing, and even a visit by the NJ Hall of Fame Mobile Museum.
From Edison Day to the weekly farmer's market, Turtle Back Zoo to the West Orange Public Library, there's so much to see and do this summer in West Orange.As always, your comments, questions & feedback are always welcome. Edison Day: Celebrate NJ's 350th Birthday
On Saturday, June 7, West Orange is throwing a big bash to celebrate New Jersey's 350 years of history! Edison Day will take place in partnership between Thomas Edison National Historical Park, the Downtown West Orange Alliance and the West Orange Public Relations Commission. Festivities are scheduled from 11am to 7pm inside Thomas Edison National Historical Park and along Main Street. The annual West Orange Town Picnic and the Downtown Street Fair will offer great food and fun activities for the entire family, while Pleasant Valley Productions provides a full day of live entertainment including bands, dancing, comedy and more. Twenty First Annual Fishing Derby
Come out for a great family day at the 21st Annual Fishing Derby at Crystal Lake on June 7 beginning at 9 am. Bring your own fishing gear and bait will be for sale. Each child will receive a memento of the occasion. Refreshments will be available for sale and anyone over the age of 14 requires a fishing license. For details, click here.
Youth Sports Pool Party
All spring youth sports teams are invited to the Youth Sports Pool Party on Sunday, June 8th at the Ginny Duenkel Pool from 6:00 to 8:30pm. See the event flyer for more information.
Sports 'n' Games Night
One of the most fun-filled and exciting evenings of the summer is the annual Sports 'n' Games night on June 25 at the Ginny Duenkel Pool. Lighthearted competition for prizes and gift certificates. Activities include balloon toss, raft races, a belly flop contest and much more. Contests are broken down into age groups. "Picnic" dinner is included with admission price. Old Timer's Day
A long-standing tradition in West Orange takes place on Saturday, September 13. Start with batting practice at 12:30pm followed by the Old Timer's Game at 1:30pm. Be sure to stop into the Kennedy Field House and look over the Colgate Wall of Fame. At 3pm, the scene shifts to Connor Hall for an awards reception. Details here.
Mayor Robert Parisi is a lifelong resident of West Orange, NJ and was elected as Mayor in May of 2010. Prior to his election as Mayor, he served on the Township Council for 12 years. He is married to his wife Sheila, and has two children, Kelly, who will be attending college in the fall of 2014, and Robert, who will be a junior at West Orange High School.
