Pleasantdale Elementary School - Girls on the Run Food Drive

Girls on the Run, a national non-profit organization that utilizes running and other activties to encourage young girls to believe in themselvesand rise above their challenges, ran a food pantry in conjunction with Pleasantdale Elementary School, where their meetings are held.

The young ladies of GOTR united with Darlene Sardinsky, a Primary Autistic teacher, suggested that the children collect donations via her autistic class as well as Jill Deardorff's autitistic class since the girls were learning about autism. The two autistic classes have eleven students combined and had never been able to collect enough food to qualify for a pizza party.

When one of the third-grade classes at Pleasantdale heard about the effort, they donated their own food donations to the two classes. Together, more than 500 non-perishable food items were collected. The students' and GOTR members' selflessness, responsibility and enthusiasm surpassed all expectations and has defined the mission of Girls on the Run.
