WEST ORANGE, NJ - A traffic stop on Eagle Rock Avenue yielded $3.1 million in cocaine on Wednesday.

Police stopped Gary W. Adams, 37, of Wittman, Ariz. near Eagle Rock Reservation on Wednesday at approximately 4 p.m. for driving in a hazardous manner. The violation resulted in a search warrant of the suspect's rental vehicle that contained 42 kilos of cocaine valued at $3.1 million. Police contacted the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Adams was arrested with the assistance of the DEA.

“This arrest uncovered a large amount of drugs valued at millions of dollars and locked up the responsible individual,” said Police Chief James P. Abbott. “I want to commend both law enforcement agencies for making our communities safer by working together to take this criminal off of the streets.”

Adams has no ties in the West Orange area and there was no evidence to suspect that the drugs were targeted for distribution in West Orange. Adams was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public park. Bail was set at $500,000 and the suspect was transported to Essex County Jail.
