Police Make Arrest in Kmart Robbery
September 7, 2012 – WEST ORANGE, NJ -- West Orange Police Department detectives yesterday charged Spillerman A. Hill, 47, of 24 Grove Street in East Orange with felony robbery for an incident that occurred on Monday, September 3 at the Kmart Shopping Center parking lot at 235 Prospect Avenue.
In a separate case, police in Bayonne captured Hill on Tuesday, September 4 after a high-speed chase and charged him with carjacking, receiving stolen property, theft of a motor vehicle, eluding police, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and stealing a bicycle.
Through investigation, WOPD Detective Pat Carosia determined Hill was the same actor involved in the Kmart incident. Hill was positively identified by the victim and charged accordingly.
According to published accounts, Hill has spent a total of 25 years in state prison for various charges, including 10 counts of robbery, two aggravated assaults, and possession of weapons for unlawful purposes.
He is being held at the Hudson County Jail.
“It is absurd that someone with such a lengthy criminal record is allowed to walk our streets and continue to commit crime,” West Orange Mayor Robert D. Parisi said. “Thanks to the swift and diligent work of our police department, this criminal is back in jail and behind bars.”
