West Orange Police Blotter For Week of January 21, 2013

WEST ORANGE, NJ -  The West Orange Police Department provided the following information for the week of January 21, 2013.

January 21:  Wallet Stolen. A female reported to the WOPD that she entered the ladies room at the Essex Green AMC Theater and placed her bi-fold wallet on the sink.  She exited the ladies room, forgetting her wallet.  When she returned several minutes later, the wallet was gone, including license and credit cards, a metro, work ID, and 20.00 in cash.

January 22 - Vehicle Break-In. The driver's side door of a 2009 Infinity G37 was damaged on St. Cloud Avenue to gain entrance.  The glove compartment was ransacked and $6.00 removed from the console.

January 22 - Motor Vehicle Stolen. A blue 2012 Kia Optima was stolen from a resident's driveway on Arverne Road.  The vehicle was unlocked wit the key fob inside the vehicle.

January 22 - Arrests Made. Three defendants from West Orange, Jean Medor, 20; Kenneth Jordan Davis, 20; and Darae Ishir Thompson, 22, were arrested in connection with an incident that began at Hoogard Market, 33 Washington Street. Darae Thompson was allegedly involved in an altercation with a knife with the store owner and entered a silver SUV type vehicle traveling north on High Street.  Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Franklin Avenue and noticed cuts on Thompson's hand. He advised police that the "knife was under the seat." An open container of gin was in the vehicle and the driver, Kenneth Davis, and the rear passenger, Jean Medor, were placed into custody.  They were transported to PQ, where Davis was charged with Possession of Alcohol Underage; Medor was charged with possession of Alcohol Underage and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; and Thompson was charged with Possession of a Weapon, 4th Degree.

January 23 - Vehicle Break In:  A 2009 Chevy Van was broken into by breaking the passenger side door's window, and power tools, including a electrical snake, 2 saws alls, a drill, and a wet vac, totaling $1,985.00 were taken. 

January 23 - Juvenile Fight With Weapon: A 14 and 15 year old, both students at West Orange High School, were involved in an altercation where the 15 year old cut the 14 year old with a razor.  The 15 year old was remanded to the Youth House and charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, and Terroristic Threats on juvenile complaints.

January 23 - Assist With Arrest With NJST:   Two West Orange Police Officers assisted in the arrest of Shamel Esperance, 19, and Kashif Harris, 20, both of West Orange, during a vehicle stop on Rt. 280 West.  The blue BMW, driven by Esperance, was stopped after a Crime Alert Trax message from 12/31/12 indicated the vehicle may have been used by burglaries and suspects may be in possession of a handgun.  A quantity of marijuana and a loaded silver 9mm Ruger semi-automatic handgun were found. The suspects were arrested and transported to the NJST Totowa Barracks.  The handgun proved to be stolen out of South Carolina.

January 24 - Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance: - A 16 year old WOHS student was discovered to be in possession of a marijuana cigarette, located inside his locker by WOHS Security.  He was released to his mother after filing a Juvenile Release form, the marijuana cigarette was confiscated as evidence, and the minor was charged with Possession of Marijuana, pending juvenile complaints.

January 24 - Motor Vehicle Stolen: A resident reported that his 2009 Infiniti G37XS was stolen from his driveway on Arverne Road.  The owner had left the vehicle unlocked with the engine running to warm it up.  Police attempted to follow the vehicle onto I-280 East, but the suspect eluded police.

January 25 - Burglary: A $200.00 GPS system was stolen from a 2005 Toyota Camry parked in a driveway on Forest Hill Road. The car was unlocked.

January 26 - Motor Vehicle Stolen: A 2007 grey Honda Civic was stolen from a driveway on Oakridge Road. Inside the vehicle was a surfboard.  The vehicle had been left in the driveway with a key in the ignitiion and the engine running.

January 27 - Burglary/Theft:  A neighbor saw a black male entering the rear yard of a house on Dean Street, and entering the rear door.  Upon investigation, she saw the rear door was locked.  It was determined the suspect fled through the front door.  The owner reported a screw gun and ladder, with a value of $350.00, had been removed.  The detective bureau then investigated, which subsequently led to the arrest of Gregory Garris, 53.

January 28 - Assistance To Orange PD:  WOPD assisted EOPD when the suspects of a shooting in East Orange were found on Lakeside Avenue in West Orange.  The WOPD saw an injured individual exiting a store at the corner of Mt. Vernon and Lakeside Avenue.  The injured individual is a known gang member with a history of violent offenses.  The WOFAS (West Orange First Aid Squad) responded to the scene and took the individual to University Hospital. Sgt. Eason of the Orange PD took over at that point.
