West Orange Police Blotter for the Week of Jan. 28

WEST ORANGE, NJ - Here is the information provided by the West Orange Police Department for the week of Jan. 25.
Jan. 28
House Fire: A structure fire was reported at 736 Eagle Rock Avenue. WOPD and WOFD responded to the report of a chimney fire. It was determined that an ember had fallen behind the wall from a gap in the chimney of the second floor fireplace. The fire was not suspicious and the residents returned inside.
tolen Vehicle and Recovery: At 6:25 a.m. officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in progress on Valley Way. As police turned on to Valley Way they discovered the vehicle, running, and in neutral on a lawn. The resident indicated the vehicle was warming up in the driveway, but was started with auto-start and no key was in the ignition. The vehicle was recovered and returned to the owners with no damage reported.
Soap Stolen: The manager of the CVS Pharmacy at 12 South Valley Road reported the theft of various Dove soaps totaling $60.93. Surveillance footage showed an hispanic male in his twenties, medium build, wearing a light colored jacked with a purple hooded sweatshirt underneath, black nylon pants with a white stripe down the side and tan work boots. CVS will be providing a copy of the footage to the WOPD
Newspaper Bundles Stolen: Two newspaper bundles were taken from the front of 545 Valley Road and reported.
Newark Resident Steals Jewelry from K-Mart: Victoria Casimire was arrested by the WOPD after K-Mart Loss Prevention reported that she was in custody after being observed taking $96.23 in jewelry and exiting the store without paying for it. Casimire, negative for warrants, was taken into custody, processed, charged with Shoplifting and given a court date of 2/7/13.
Vehicle Vandalized: The owner of a 2010 Ford reported that his rear window had been broken at 155 Prospect Avenue. It appeared no entry had been made nor anything taken.
Vehicle Stolen: A 1995 Honda Accord was stolen on Tompkins Street. The investigation is ongoing and the vehicle entered into the system as stolen. The victim had the keys in his possession.
Flat Screen TV Stolen: A Toshiba 47" flat screen TV valued at $1500.00 was stolen from the community room clubhouse on Leonardo Drive. Although the theft occurred between Jan. 25 and Jan. 26, the employees waited to search for the TV in the event it had been moved. The exit door to the community room/gym area has a defective lock, which may have been the entry and exit point for the theft.
Jan. 29
Theft of Services: Two males wearing black jackets and driving a 2011 black Lincoln MKX SUV pulled into the BP Gas Station at 83 Main Street and filled the tank for a total due of $52.05. The vehicle took off without paying. The license plate was obtained as the vehicle fled and was traced back to a vehicle stolen in Linden on Jan. 23. Orange and Montclair police departments were notified.
Possession of CDS: Daniel Estuardo Ramirez of East Hanover was arrested when police on patrol in the Watchung area detained the suspect after observing his silver Nissan Ultima enter the gates of Rosedale Cemetery. Police approached the suspect and discovered suspected marijuana and rolling papers. Ramirez was charged with Poss of CDS under 50 grams, 36-2 Poss of Drug Paraphernalia, and Poss of CDS in MV. He has a court date scheduled for Feb. 5.
Public Urination-Indecent Exposure: Walter Matthew Moriarty was issued a summons when police discovered him next to a Dodge Ram Pickup and urinating in public next to 320 Main Street.
Jan. 30
Burglary/Motor Vehicle Theft: A female victim on Burnett Terrace reported a break in of her 2007 Lexus ES350. A black purse, makeup and approximately $15 in quarters were taken. The parked vehicle was unlocked.
Package Stolen: A resident on South Valley Road reported the theft of a UPS package from the steps of his home, valued at $103.55.
Jan. 31
Home Burglary: A homeowner on Buckingham Road reported that upon return from her home in the evening, a windown had been forced open and a white computer laptop had been taken. Additionally, gold jewelry and $700 in cash were removed.
Feb. 1
Theft: A USPS package was stolen from the front steps of a Knollwood Drive residence. Reported taken was a $51.34 value, including Fila sneakers and black socks.
Attempted Burglary: A Detective from the Essex County Sheriff's Department reported a male, 18-23 years old, black hoodie, black and white scarf over his face, pulling on the door handle of his 2013 Lexus on Eagle Rock Avenue. The suspect then jumped into a Nissan Murano which headed west on Eagle Rock and south on Prospect Avenue.
Feb. 2
MV Stop/CDS Arrest: Leroy Doctor, 33, was arresed after his white 2003 Mercedes Benz 320 was stopped for violations in front of 80 Main Street. A check revealed Doctor was driving with a suspended license and two active warrants: $500 in East Orange and $250 in Montclair. In addition, a motor vehicle search revealed five small white pills. Doctor was arrested and charged with Possession of CDS and Possession of Paraphernalia; a motor vehicle summons for Improper Use of Handheld Device and Suspended DL. He posted bail and a court date was set.
Feb. 3
Simple Assault: Club security at 4Sixty6 contacted police to report a male clubgoer wearing a tank top, which is against club dress code. The clubgoer refused to put his shirt back on and was escorted towards the exit, and he became aggressive, and other individuals struck the escorter about the face and head. No one received medical attention and no complaints were filed.
Theft of Gas: The Delta Gas Station at 23 Park Avenue reported that two males in a grey BMW asked for unleaded gasoline and the attendant filled the tank, totaling $42. The suspects then took off at a high rate of speed without paying. It is unclear if the gas station has video surveillance.
