WEST ORANGE, NJ - It was a busy week for the West Orange Police Department from September 10-18.

Armed Robbery

9/16 – Armed Robbery/Theft.  Homeowners on Colonial Woods drive met police after calls were made of a burglary and theft of a motor vehicle in progress.  The couple was sleeping when he heard a noise and discovered a suspect in the hallway of his home.  The suspect ran from the residence and chased by the homeowner, who was threatened by the suspect “stop or I’ll shoot” in the driveway.  The victim entered his residence and observed the suspect take his 2001 red BMW X5 with the keys he had taken from a table inside the home.  He is described as a black male in his 20s, about 6’1, 170 lbs wearing a long sleeved red shirt with white stripes on the arms and a gray winter hat.  Victim also reported the theft of a laptop.

9/19 – Armed Robbery.  A female, 17 and a male, 20, both of West Orange, reported they were robbed at gunpoint on South Valley Road and Tremont Avenue by unknown actors that approached from behind and forced them to the ground.  The suspects took a black IPhone and a set of house keys from the female, along with a bag of ice cream. 

Burglary

9/14 – Alleged Burglary/Theft.  A woman reported the theft of $300 in jewelry from her residence on Seaman Road.  Because she waited a day to call police, the scene was contaminated and police could not process it.

9/16 – Attempted Burglary.  A homeowner on Longview Street reported that two black males had attempted to remove the back screen of his home and enter his residence.  He startled them and they took off. 

9/17 – Burglary to Residence.  $6,200 in jewelry was reported stolen by a homeowner on Pleasant Valley Way.  A cut screen was found, apparently the point of entry. 

9/17 – Attempted Burglary.  A resident on Ardmore Road reported to police the attempted break in of her residence, but due to security latches on the windows the suspects were unsuccessful.

9/18 – Alleged Burglary.  A garage door was found open on a residence on Prospect Avenue.  No entry was attained.

Burglary/Criminal Mischief

9/12 – Burglary/Criminal Mischief.  The owner of a vacant property on Pleasant Valley Way reported someone had damaged ceiling tiles and spray fire extinguishers around the interior.

9/14 – Graffiti. A white male with a hooded sweatshirt was seen on I-280 West at 3:44 am and graffiti was discovered near his location.  He was identified by police as Brian Kerr, 20 of West Orange, and has been charged in spraying the graffiti on I 280 West.  He is also a suspect in a series of recent graffiti incidents in the township. 

9/14 – Alarm/Open Door.  Police responded to a residence on Blackburne Terrace as their alarm was going off.  The door was unlocked and ajar.  The home seemed to be in order but could not be secured due to the deadlock bolt on the door.  A form was left.

CDS

Edwin Marroquin, 50, of Montclair, was arrested at 235 Watchung Avenue after police observed his suspicious behavior and discovered suspected crack cocaine in his possession.

Criminal Mischief

9/16 – Criminal Mischief.  The owner of a 2010 BMW 328 located on DiGaetano Terrace reported someone scratcher her driver’s side door.

DWI

Eduardo Guallpa, 18, of Newark, was arrested by the BP Gas Station on Main Street after police observed him driving erratically.  He failed sobriety tests at the scene and was arrested.  He refused a breathalyzer at the police station, receiving subsequent summonses: DWI, refusal to submit, careless driving, failure to exhibit registration, unlicensed driver, failure to exhibit insurance, failure to wear seatbelt, obstruction of view and failure to keep right.

Simple Assault

Officers questioned two males, one of whom said, he had been assaulted by the other, on Eagle Rock Avenue.  The incident began with a small ‘road rage’ argument.  When the victim entered Quick Shop, the owner of the other vehicle punched him.  Victim refused medical attention.

Shoplifting

9/16 – Shoplifting.  An employee at the Essex Green Macys was arrested when he was observed stealing a $69 Calvin Klein jacket.  Uzomeziem Eze, 21, was arrested and charged with shoplifting.

9/16 – Shoplifting. Roca’s Convenience Store on Valley Road report ed the theft of a pack of Newports.

Strong Arm Robbery

9/18 – Strong Arm Robbery.  At around 4:00 a bus driver from Hunterdon Educational Services Commission dropped off approximately 6 WOHS students on Main Street in front of Edison Middle School.  He then stopped at Franklin Avenue to drop off more students, and suspect one grabbed the driver’s Apple headphones, pushing the driver into his seat as he opposed him.  The driver tried to stop suspect one by grabbing his backpack.  A second suspect took the driver’s  IPhone. There is surveillance footage available for review.  During the altercation a minor motor vehicle crash occurred when a vehicle hit the rear of the bus.

9/19 – Strong Arm Robbery.  The CVS Pharmacy on Main Street reported the theft of frozen food and mouthwash by a black male with a walking cane.  As the store attempted to stop him upon exit the got into the altercation and both fell to the ground.  He dropped the food and fled.

Suicide

9/15 – Suicide.  A 52 year old female on Coccio Lane was found by a friend who reported to police that her friend had hung herself.  She noted she had also been depressed.

9/11 – Theft of Property. Victim reports two flat screen televisions, a silver laptop and shoes, totaling $3,300 was taken from her residence on Harrison Avenue.   

Theft

9/10 – Theft of Motor Vehicle.  A 2013 BMW 740 was reported stolen from the Montclair Country Club after a suspect was observed exiting a red Hyundai Elantra, entering the BMW and exiting the club parking lot.

9/13 – Theft of Property. A shopper at K-Mart reported the theft of their wallet from Register #3. Surevillance footage showed a black male with dark skin, gray tee shirt, blue jeans and a black string blackpack place the victim’s wallet into his backpack.

Warrant Arrest

9/16 – Warrant Arrest.  George Wright, 23, of Orange, was arrested after police followed up on a report of a suspicious 2005 Chevy 2 door in the area of Maple Street and Harrison Avenue.  Wright was found to have warrants in Elizabeth and Hillside.  Police released his vehicle to his passenger, and Wright was transported to HQ.
