West Orange Pharmacy Closing

WEST ORANGE, NJ - After 60 years in business, West Orange Pharmacy, located at 443 Main Street in West Orange, is closing.
Local residents were greeted with a sign in the window saying "New pharmacy coming soon." The building is owned by the Carlucci brothers, who sold partial interest in their family pharmacy business several years ago to Leonard (Lenny) Stefanelli. On September 10, 2012, Stefanelli was arrested by the DEA (with assistance from the WOPD) for selling illegal oxycodone prescriptions.
Stefanelli was charged after an undercover operation that ran for several months. After a pharmacy robbery in 2009, WOPD became suspicious and the DEA investigation ensued. He made bail and an arraignment is still pending.
It is currently unclear as to whether the pharmacy has already closed, or what date it actually will be closing. Residents with renewable prescriptions are encouraged to look into transferring their prescriptions elsewhere at this time.
Update: The Pharmacy is expected to close this week. They are no longer able to fill prescriptions. It is hoped a new pharmacy will open within the next several weeks. For now, however, residents must get their prescriptions transferred and filled elsewhere.
