WEST ORANGE, NJ - Nolvin Garcia, 24, of Orange, has been apprehended by authorities in Texas while attempting to cross the Mexican border, reports Jessica Glicker, West Orange Town Information Officer. Garcia has been sought as a suspect in the fatal shooting of Jacques Nelson, a bouncer at Misty's Restaurant on Main Street in West Orange, on August 6. Garcia was captured by Texas authorities and extradition will be facilitated by the Essex County Prosecutor's office.
In a conversation with The Alternative Press, Mayor Robert Parisi said "we are thrilled that the suspect has been apprehended and appreciate the multiple levels of law enforcement nationwide that have helped bring the suspect to justice. From our local law enforcement agencies to the national effort, we are grateful to all of them for committing themselves to Mr. Garcia's apprehension.
"The most important thing a government can do is to ensure the safety of its residents. Homicide shakes a community and our police department has been diligent to protect our citizens. While even one crime is too many, our statistics show that West Orange has been doing a good job to address crime. Though an increase in crime is a side effect of the current state of our society, the efforts of our law enforcement personnel from the top down, neighborhood groups, civic associations and residents are working together to help keep West Orange safe."
Nolvin Garcia will be jailed in Newark.
