WEST ORANGE, NJ As the 2014 Municipal Budget comes up for final approval at the May 6 Township Council meeting, Mayor Robert D. Parisi has announced that he has scheduled four additional community meetings to discuss municipal taxes.

“West Orange has had the lowest municipal tax increase of any municipality in Essex County since 2008. Our objectives each year are to stabilize municipal taxes, provide quality services to the community and ensure that services being provided remain affordable. It is my hope that these meeting will provide the community an opportunity to understand what goes into local property taxes while focusing on residents’ questions and concerns,” Parisi said.

Included in the presentations will be a detailed account of the the proposed 2014 budget  and a breakdown of how taxes are spent in West Orange. Also included in the presentation is an overview of the services provided by the township and a comparison with surrounding towns. Parisi will also explain the challenges that West Orange faces versus neighboring communities.

There are four meetings currently scheduled:

May 7 at 7:30 pm - Hazel Elementary School, 45 Hazel Avenue

May 12 at 7:00 pm - Bel Air Clubhouse, 1 Whitbay Drive

May 20 at 7:00 pm -  Gregory Elementary School, 301 Gregory Avenue

May 27 at 7:00 pm - Redwood Elementary School, 75 Redwood Avenue
