WEST ORANGE, NJ - The All Purpose Room at Washington Elementary School was filled with parents and guardians on March 12  that were anxious to hear about the all-day Kindergarten program in the West Orange School district. The September, 2013, Public School Kindergarten is open to West Orange children turning 5 on or before October 1, 2013.

Information was provided about the district’s commitment to music, art and physical education at every grade level, and academic and social readiness for the earliest learners. The Washington Elementary School Orchestra members performed for the audience. Several  Principals from the seven elementary schools were on hand to speak to parents.

Questions included nutritional questions regarding hot lunches and breakfasts; busing; and security and emergency protocols. The school district provides busing to most schools and has security controls for school buildings throughout West Orange.

“The Kindergarten presentation offers parents and guardians an opportunity to meet some of the principals of the elementary schools, receive information about what children do in a full-day kindergarten program, and gain an understanding of the necessary steps to successfully ready children for this educational milestone,” said Interim Superintendent of Schools James O’Neill. “We were thrilled with the turnout."
