WEST ORANGE, NJ - Although Gov. Livingston took the lead with a goal five minutes into the first period, West Orange ice hockey rebounded quickly and never let go of the lead. Their 6-3 victory on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Codey Arena marks their second victory of the season.
Captain Chris Hanley said, “Tonight we played 45 minutes of solid hockey. We followed our system and played very well. Our team played up to our fullest potential.”
Robert Monroy of Gov. Livingston scored the first goal of the evening, assisted by Danny Kramer. Senior Max Gomes quickly recovered the puck to tie the score for West Orange, assisted by Alec Hill and Tyler Viezel. The competitive first period was capped off by another goal by West Orange’s Jonathan Miller, who earned a hat trick and is currently the team’s leading scorer.
A shorthanded goal was scored by Miller and assisted by Hill with 8:55 seconds left in the second period. Hill scored the fourth goal, assisted by Elijah Roberts. West Orange dominated the second period to take a 4-1 lead over Governor Livingston.
Governor Livingston’s energized play in the final period brought them their two final goals by Kevin Ewald, assisted by Ryan Findesen, and and Danny Kramer, assisted by Monroy and Ewald.
Miller and Roberts both scored, lifting West Orange to their second victory of the season.
“This season has been very difficult, most obviously just getting wins, but in many aspects as well. So to start off the New Year with a win is a real morale booster and hopefully can lead to a few more in the next few upcoming games,” said Captain Jonathan Miller.
Gov. Livingston's record now stands at 3-5-0 and West Orange stands at 2-8-1.
The Mountaineers will face off on Monday, January 6 against Jonathan Dayton at Warinanco Arena in Roselle, New Jersey.
