WEST ORANGE, NJ - On Thursday, April 10, the West Orange Historic Preservation Committee (WOHPC) will hold an opening reception at the West Orange Public Library at 46 Mt. Pleasant Ave. for a permanent photography exhibition spotlighting 10 township properties that have been designated as architecturally and/or historically significant by the commission. The reception will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. and the community is invited to attend.

West Orange resident photographer Heidi Sussman volunteered to photograph the structures at no charge to the WOHPC. “We are indebted to photographer Heidi Sussman of the West Orange Arts Council for volunteering to commemorate our local historic structures,” said Commission Chair Brian Feeney. Sussman, who will be in attendance along with other Commission and WOAC members, also orchestrated the installation.

“It is only through local designation that these buildings can be protected,” Feeney said.

The Commission also received a Certified Government Grant of $24,500, one of only four in the state, to underwrite two in-depth architectural surveys. The first is of the St. Cloud neighborhood and the second is along Main Street.

"We have long needed to update the West Orange Site Survey, originally completed in 1992," said Feeney. "This grant will make it possible to complete Phase 1 of a new survey that will be a great resource for the Township.”
