WEST ORANGE, NJ - This week, the the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, in conjunction with votes from members of the media from across the state.in conjunction with The Star-Ledger/NJ.com, named their All-State selections in winter sports. One of those athletes was Barden Adams, a senior at West Orange High School, who was named to third team for his outstanding success in the high jump.

The Alternative Press caught up with Barden at the high school, where he is already adding to his to his record with a win in the high jump yesterday at the WOHS Boys Track team season opener against Millburn. The team also took the victory in yesterday's meet. Adams will compete in high jump, triple jump, and hurdles this spring.

Adams was named to the All-State team for high jump, though he started the season with a focus on triple jump. As the season developed, Adams continued to beat out the top high jumpers in the state. "After winning the sectional, I realized that I might have a chance to win the state title," said Barden.

"My biggest competition is Ian Kirk from Howell," he continued. "When I beat him, I was sure I would be one of the top high jumpers in the state."

"It's a great accomplishment to make All-State," he noted.

He went on to explain that the criteria for selection included factoring in the records of the top six athletes in the sport. Adams boasts a 6'6 in the high jump and excelled throughout the season.

Adams is currently mulling over his prospects for college. He has narrowed down his choices to Iowa State University, the University of Memphis, and East Carolina University, where he has been offered scholarships and plans to continue with track - specifically, high jump and triple jump.

We asked who Barden wanted to give a 'shout out' to in the face of this prestigious accomplishment.  "I'd like to thank my brothers James and Franklin," said Adams. "They've been an inspiration." James and Franklin are both jumpers, James at the University of South Carolina, and Franklin at South Illinois University.
