WEST ORANGE, NJ - After the West Orange Township Council voted on March 25 to approve the construction of a spray pad at Ginny Duenkel Pool, several residents asked: what exactly is a spray pad?
A spray pad is a water playground that has little or no standing water. It combines different types of water movements like flowing, misting, and jetting in combinations of spray nozzles, water sprays, and showers, The water used will be the standard of swimming pool quality water. Spray pads may be surfaced in textured concrete that is considered non-slip, or in crumb rubber, which is recycled from automotive tires.
So what will the new spray pad at the Ginny Duenkel pool look like? According to the attached photos from the architect's plan presented at Tuesday's council meeting, there appears to be several "toys' that will entertain children from 2-10, and probably their parents as well.
With names like "Shower Tunnel", "Drizzle Drop", "Dewdrop", "Mr. Claw", "Popkorn Jet" and "Tiny Toolip", the 100 ft. reconstruction of the wading pool just may be the coolest thing to hit the Ginny Duenkel pool since the diving tank.
