West Orange Fire Department Raises Nearly $13,000 at Cycle for Survival

SUMMIT, NJ - Team West Orange Fire Department raised $12,773 to combat rare cancers at the Cycle For Survival Event held at the Equinox Gym in Summit on Saturday.

Equinox Gym, one of the original sites of Cycle for Survival, again hosted New Jersey groups.  At least 16,000 people in 13 cities were expected to participate nationally.

Team West Orange Fire Department was comprised of 16 members. Chief Fred Kingston, himself a cancer survivior, captained his team in raising the funds. The team also rode in memory of West Orange Police Officer Tim Groves, who passed away in October 2013 from cancer.

Several West Orange residents participated, including Jessica Glicker, Town Information Officer, who participated on Team JENesis.  Glicker was friends with Jennifer Goodman Linn, co-founder of Cycle for Survival. Team JENesis raised $14,439.

Cycle For Survival is a is fundraiser committed to raising money for rare forms of cancer, and was started in 2007 by Chicagoan David Linn and his wife, Jennifer, who died in 2011 of a rare form of sarcoma.

To date, the nationwide fundraiser has raised over 42 million to fund research for rare cancers. All of the donations are used to fund the research.
