West Orange Elementary Schools Hold Their Own "Souper Bowls"

WEST ORANGE, NJ - There was more than one Superbowl held this past week in West Orange. In a tradition that has become increasingly popular across the country, three West Orange Elementary Schools ran their own "Souper Bowls" and donated the canned goods they collected to the West Orange Food Pantry.
On Thursday, February 7, Food Pantry Administrator Cynthia Cumming was overwhelmed to find the Fifth Grade Student Congress at Pleasantdale Elementary School waiting for her with at least 25 bags of donated goods. "The West Orange School District is always so good to us, along with the rest of our West Orange residents!" she said.
In addition to Pleasantdale, Hazel and Gregory Elementary Schools also contacted the food pantries to drop off their Souper Bowl collections. The food pantry staff was excited and came in especially to put all the donations away for next week's Food Pantry.
The West Orange Food Pantry is located at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 315 Main Street, in West Orange. Monetary and food donations are always needed and appreciated. The food pantry provides nutritious groceries to its clients the last two Tuesdays and Fridays of each month between 9-1 pm and the last two Mondays between 6-8. If you know a West Orange resident in need of food, please contact Cynthia Cumming, Food Pantry Administrator, at 201-341-9217, or heidlercumming@aol.com. Certain requirements must be met.
