West Orange Community House Robbed of Tuition Money

WEST ORANGE, NJ - The West Orange Police Department provided the following information for the week of Feb. 4:
Feb. 4
Theft of Money - The West Orange Community House reported that $610 was taken from the tuition envelope. The envelope is kept in the front office, which is not locked and does not have a surveillance camera.
Theft of Gas - A 2013 Audi pulled in to the BP gas station and asked to have the tank filled. Two males were in the vehicle. The suspects took off without paying for the gas. A license plate check revealed the vehicle was stolen in Hoboken earlier in the day. Surveillance footage will be reviewed.
Feb. 5
Theft of Snowblower - A resident reported that his snowblower, valued at $1,500, was stolen from his secured garage at 90 Northfield Avenue.
Garage Door Damaged - A garage door, also located in the apartment complex at 90 Northfield Avenue, suffered $300 in damages when a vehicle attempted to ram it to break in.
Shoplifting - Lorraine Andrews, a 47 year old resident of West Orange, was arrested for shoplifting at the Prospect Avenue K Mart. She was charged with shoplifting a curling iron in the amount of $25.67. A check revealed outstanding warrants: $2,354 in Union and $1,000 in East Orange. She was issued a summons and posted bail in the amount of $3,354.
Motor Vehicle Theft - A woman reported the theft of her 1984 Chevy Cavalier from the parking lot in Essex Green near Macy's and Dress Barn. The vehicle had been unlocked.
Feb. 6
Burglary - A Wellington Avenue resident reported that his residence had been broken into through an unlocked door at the rear of the house. Once inside, dressers and purses were ransacked though nothing appeared to have been taken. A laptop, valued at $700, was removed.
Feb. 7
Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft - A female resident reported an attempted theft of her 2011 Chevy Camaro at 410 Street, though the attempt was unsuccessful and the vehicle was undamaged.
Assault - An argument regarding a motor vehicle repair at 467 Valley between two males resulted in a fist fight. The victim refused assistance and was encouraged to file a criminal complaint.
imple Assault - The boyfriend of female employee at K Mart accosted one of her co workers and threatened him. No bodily damage was noted though the victim was encouraged to file a complaint, which he did.
Feb. 8
Eluding - During patrol officers pulled into the BP Gas Station and recognized a passenger in a vehicle from previous arrests. A check of the license plate was not on file. He then took off and the officers pursued, where he stopped at Spring Street in Orange. As the officers approached the vehicle the suspect took off again and officers once again pursued, though he eluded pursuit.
Feb. 9
Criminal Mischief - The owner of Lee's Market, located that 545 Valley Road, notified police that her front window had been broken by an unknown object. Nothing was taken.
Obstruction - Darius Faison, 18, of West Orange, was arrested and charged with obstruction when police attempted to detain him at the corner of Main Street and Harrison Avenue. Faison was the subject of a Patrol Alert/ Wanted Person warrant in West Orange for Witness Tampering and Burglary. Bail was set at $50,000. The suspect was remanded into custody and given a court date of 2/21/13.
Feb. 1
Attempted Motor Vehicle Theft - A Walker Road resident reported that her 1996 Jeep Cherokee had been broken into, the door lock assembly and ignition damaged, though the perpetrators were unsuccessful in stealing the vehicle.
