WEST ORANGE, NJ - The Cobras, West Orange Recreation's 11U traveling Baseball team, has had a very good Spring and Summer season, and they were recognized for their efforts at the August 12 Township Council meeting.

The team is comprised of several hard-working boys: JJ Scavalla, Sean Brown, Angelo Deer, Luke Stennett, Mark Mincolelli, Jordan Quiles, Eitan Kaynan, AJ Keiser, Aidan Healey, Andrew Orabona, and Pharele Brun.  Head Coach Jason Scavalla and Assistant Coaches Thomas Orabona and Joseph Deer, and Pitching Coach Jim Sickinger, stood proudly with the boys as their successes were applauded.

Unlike other town teams and in an effort to develop their players and the team as a whole, the Cobras competed in two leagues and played in three tournaments. They included the "Bigs League" which consisted of mostly club teams, and the "Montville Travel League."

Additionally, the Cobras played in three tournaments, traveling to Aberdeen, Maryland to play in the highly competitive Cal Ripken Easter Tournament, Diamond Nation March Madness Tournament, and the 14th Annual Mt. Olive Marauders Memorial Day Tournament. The boys finished the spring season with a record of 18-16 and won the championship in the Montville League with an 11-9 victory over the first place team. Three of our players JJ Scavalla, Angelo Deer and Sean Brown, were invited to play in the All-Star game for the Bigs League.

This summer, the Cobras played in the "Bigs League" and played in one Diamond Nation tournament totaling 15 games. The Cobras continued to excel, competing against club teams with a record of 10-4-1. The Cobras finished in First place during the regular summer season and lost in the playoff semifinals.

Winter training began in January and the boys dedicated themselves to training and hard work, which certainly paid off. They ended the Spring/Summer season with a 28-20-1 record and a spring championship.

Said Coach Scavalla, "The Cobras are a great group of players and I'm looking forward to working with them all in the future."

He continued, "I'd like to thank the parents for everything they do for the team. All of their time and support helps make everything possible.  Congratulations to the Cobras on all of their success."
