WEST ORANGE, NJ - West Orange was one of four municipalities that received a specialized Disaster Response Utility Trailer from the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management. The trailers were given to Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and will boost the towns' capabilities during crises.
Lakewood, Aberdeen/Matawan and Little Ferry were the three other townships that received trailers.
“New Jersey is proud to be home to one of the nation’s largest CERT programs -- 23,000 volunteers organized into 250 teams,” said Col. Rick Fuentes, State Police Superintendent and Director of the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management. “The program is robust because of citizen engagement and neighbor helping neighbor, a New Jersey tradition. We will continue to support our volunteers’ efforts by equipping them with resources, such as the Response Utility Trailers. Four communities are receiving equipment today, but it is also a time to thank and recognize all CERT volunteers who serve others selflessly during adverse conditions.”
The Disaster Response Utility Trailers are valued at $7,650, and each one comes equipped with a generator, basic medical supplies, lighting equipment, tools, tents and evacuation support equipment.
The trailers were funded through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
With the deployment of the four trailers on April 3, the NJ Office of Emergency Management has allocated a total of 112 CERT Utility Trailers.
The New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit also received a specially-equipped trailer to augment child abduction and missing person searches and investigations.
In West Orange, CERT is overseen by the Fire Department under the direction of the Office of Emergency Management. Our chain of command into the town government is Fire Department Officers, Deputy Chief Paul Wannemacher and Firefighter Abdur Yasin.
