WEST ORANGE, NJ - As basketball season kicks into gear, the West Orange High school boys basketball team  is ready for action.

“This year we plan to stun the Super Essex Conference and show northern New Jersey what West Orange is about,” senior Isaiah Scott said during an interview with WOHS TAP team reporter Evan Easterling. This weekend, the Mountaineers did just that, winning their first game against Dickinson, 73-62, on Dec. 27, and losing the championship game in a 47-43 heartbreaker on Dec. 28 at the Essex County Cougar Classic Tournament in Cranford.

Cranford's Luke Christiano hit a 3-pointer with only 47 seconds left in the game, and tossed in another two points with two free throws.

The Mountaineers settled for second place, with players Tacai Dryden scoring 11 points and Scott scoring 10 points. After an outstanding weekend of tournament play, the Mountaineers put themselves on the map as a team to watch.

Early season games saw a victory and a loss, as West Orange beat Christian Brothers Academy, 46-45, in the Hoop Group Tip-Off Classic on Dec. 22. They lost to the Livingston Lancers, 47-41, on Dec. 20.

Stay tuned for the updated boys basketball Schedule.
