WEST ORANGE, NJ - Current Board of Education member Laura Lab will run unopposed in the Board of Education election to be held on November 4, 2014.
According to Essex County Clerk Christopher Durkin, "The deadline for School Board candidates to file petitions to appear on the November 4th General Election ballot was Monday, July 28th at 4:00pm. Only one candidate (Incumbent Laura Lab) filed a petition for the one available seat (three-year term)."
Lab is currently completing a second term on the board. In recent years, the board of election race has been hotly contested by multiple candidates. It is unclear why Lab was the only one to file, but it will undoubtedly come as good news to the board and new Superintendent Jeffrey Rutzky, who will benefit from Lab's six years of expertise, training, and special education knowledge.
Durkin went on to note "Petitions for West Orange Mayor (4 year term) and Council (2 seats for a 4 year term) are due September 2. The candidates will file those petitions with the West Orange Township Clerk. The West Orange Township Clerk will then hold a ballot drawing and certify the ballot positions to me and I will place candidates on the ballot for the November 4th General Election ballot."
