The West Orange Board of Education issued an email to parents and staff on the School Messenger list:

Dear West Orange Public School Parents and Staff,

As previously communicated, the Board of Education unanimously appointed James F. O'Neill as Interim Superintendent of the West Orange Public School District at the August 7, 2012 Board of Education meeting. Since his appointment, Mr. O'Neill has met individually with every board member, director, and principal in an effort to learn as much as possible about West Orange in a short period of time. He has also discussed the district’s programs and goals with Assistant Superintendent Donna Rando and members of the Board.

Mr. O’Neill says he has been “very impressed by the quality of the administrative team and their dedication to the students of West Orange.”

Mr. O’Neill plans to communicate with the parent community prior to the start of school and regularly during the course of the school year. The Board believes Mr. O’Neill’s leadership will have a very positive impact on the West Orange Public Schools.

Also, the Board unanimously appointed Hayden N. Moore as the new principal of West Orange High School at the July 23 Board of Education meeting. Mr. Moore will be a vital and integral part of helping the district move forward in a positive way.

The Board looks forward to working with and supporting Mr. Moore in his efforts to enhance the success that the high school has experienced, while addressing any areas of the program that have not met our expectations.

Mr. O’Neill indicates he is pleased to be working with someone of Mr. Moore’s energy and dedication. He believes Mr. Moore will have a positive impact on the climate, culture, and academic progress of WOHS in the coming year. Other notable positions filled this summer include Marc Lawrence as the Social Studies Supervisor for grades 6-12; and James Aquavia as the Language Arts Supervisor for grades K-8.

The next Board of Education meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 29 at 8 pm in the Central Administration Building. This meeting was previously scheduled for August 28.

Bus passes have been mailed so you should expect to receive them in the next day or two. If you need to reach the Department of Transportation, please call (973) 669-5357. Schedules and student packets will be mailed the week of August 27.

Please remember that the first three days of school for Kindergarten students are single session (half days).

The Board of Education hopes you have had an enjoyable and safe summer.

Remember, the first day of school for students is Wednesday, September 5.
