LIVINGSTON, NJ - On Wednesday, Oct. 30, the West Essex Y hosted a Pre-Halloween Parade, in which over a dozen costumed Y tots trekked over to Livingston’s Inglemoor Rehab and Care Center to visit with the residents.
The children paraded through the facility trick or treating, decorated Halloween pictures as gifts for the residents, and celebrated with holiday cookies and juice.
“I was overjoyed by the response from the Inglemoor residents and our Y children,” said Cheryl Francione, associate executive director of the West Essex Y. “They really enjoyed each other’s company. Everyone was smiling from ear to ear.”
One Inglemoor resident, Leonard Baker, was especially glad to partake in the festivities. Baker was a Y member for many years, until illness created his need for full time medical assistance.
"When our friends can’t come to us, we go to them,” said Francione.
“The children were adorable, and it made Len so happy to see them,” said Grace Baker. “Thank you for bringing a little bit of the Y to his doorstep.”
“The West Essex Y and Inglemoor have become partners on a mission to increase intergenerational awareness in our community,” said Francione. “We are already planning our next activity, which will involve our tween and teen Y members.”
