WEST CALDWELL, NJ - West Caldwell resident Kevin Kinney will be among the honorees at the annual dinner dance of The Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh. The event will take place on Saturday, April 12, at Mayfair Farms in West Orange. Kinney will be honored as the "Shillelagh Man of the Year" along with Thomas Wester of Maplewood. In addition, the Congdon Family will be saluted at the evening's occasion as "Friends of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh."

“The Shillelagh Club and its membership has meant a lot to me over the years, and to be recognized with my fellow honorees is something I will never forget,” said Kinney. "My Irish heritage and keeping that tradition alive with family and friends through various events we have at the Shillelagh is something I encourage all to take part in.”

Kinney is closely involved with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, dedicated to finding a cure for childhood cancers. In 2006 he signed on as a shave and he knew he had to do more. Kinney’s ideas for a charity fundraiser came together when he joined the Shillelagh Club and over the past seven years his event has become one of the biggest in the nation and raised more than $500,000 for childhood cancer research.

In addition to launching St. Baldrick’s at the Shillelagh, Kinney has been active with other functions, serving as financial secretary, vice president and eventually serving a two-year term as president from 2011-2013.  He currently serves on the club’s Executive Board as a trustee.

Kinney has been employed by Rhodes, Van Note and Company Realtors in Montclair since 1996 and has been very active in the field, achieving numerous sales awards and honors along the way. He started his work career at the Prudential Insurance Company in Newark, where he met his future wife Claire. The two have been residents of West Caldwell for over 20 years and are the proud parents of Jack and Sean.

Kinney is an alumna of the Montclair Rugby Football Club, where he played from 1980-1996 and is active in the West Caldwell community as a volunteer coach for various recreation programs.
