WEST CALDWELL, NJ - For the first time in 10 years, and 30 years prior to that, the Caldwell Wrestling Team took first place in the annual Bloomfield Holiday Wrestling Tournament.
The competition, which took place on Saturday, has been held annually at Bloomfield High School for 50 years. Nine high school teams--Belleville, Bloomfield, Clifton, Kearny, Middletown North, Mount Olive, Passaic Valley, Ridge and Verona--competed against Caldwell in the event.

The team was well represented by seniors Ryan Condit, Joe Galioto and Mario Pitch who led the way with first place finishes. The wrestler of the day, however, was junior Ian Davison, who finished the competition in first place and was presented with the award for "Most Pins in Quickest Time." Davison recorded a pin in each round including the finals which helped the Chiefs seal the victory.
Condit dominated his Mount Olive opponent in a gutsy, come from behind 15-7 major decision in the finals of the 145-pound division
Mario Pitch recorded a second period pin over his Mount Olive opponent to finish first in the 120-pound weight class
Galioto worked quickly in the 220-pound final by recording a 45-second pin for a first place finish
Davison clinched the Chiefs team victory with a dramatic third period pin over his Clifton opponent in the finals of the HWT division
