Watchung Trailside Museum Presentation at Summit Old Guard

Joseph Filo, Senior Park Naturalist and Elisa Sanaman, Union County Program Coordinator, will discuss the educational and environmental programs at the Union County Trailside Museum.  The museum located in the Watchung Reservation is considered the jewel of the Union County Park system.  Programs at the museum include formal training sessions for local school teachers on topics such as Wetland Management and Water recourses.  Included in the educational program are adult “Primitive Skills Workshops” where survival skills such as fire starting are taught.

Joseph Filo has a B.S. degree from Cooks College at Rutgers in Natural Resource Management. He has been employed by the Union County Park System since 2001.

Elisa Sanamanan’s education includes an undergraduate degree in Anthology from Brooklyn College and a Masters degree from the University of California, Berkeley.  She has been a program coordinator since 2004.

All area 50-plus active men are invited to attend meetings of the Summit Area Old Guard on Tuesday mornings at the New Providence Municipal Center at 360 Elkwood Avenue.  A coffee hour starts at 9:15 that is followed by a 10 AM short business meeting. Old Guard members participate in sports, bridge, hikes, trips, plays, concerts and cultural events.  Old Guard members will visit the new Barnes Museum in Philadelphia on April 18th .
