Wallet Thieves Strike Westfield Shops

Ms. Maria A. Alicea, 38, of Iselin was arrested subsequent to a motor vehicle stop on the 1000 block of Central Avenue on the strength of one outstanding ATS warrant issued by the Westfield Municipal Court. Ms. Alicea was transported to Westfield Police Headquarters for arrest processing and released after posting bail.

March 21, 2014 7:20 p.m.

Aswad Turner, 20, of Westfield was arrested for possession of CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia pursuant to a motor vehicle stop. Turner was arrested, processed and released on his own recognizance on a summons.

Alyssa Vita, 20, of Cranford was arrested for possession of CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia pursuant to a motor vehicle stop. Vita was arrested, processed and released on her own recognizance on a summons.

Matthew Sosnowski, 19, of Westfield was arrested for burglary, simple assault, possession of CDS, pursuant to a motor vehicle stop. Sosnowski was arrested, processed and placed in cell #2 awaiting bail.

March 21, 2014 10:30 p.m.

Antonio Chevas, 30, of Elizabeth was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant ($114.00) out of Westfield Municipal Court pursuant to turning himself in at Headquarters. Chevas was processed and released after posting bail.

March 22, 2014 2:58 a.m.

Courtney C. Cook, 39, of Brooklyn, NY was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant ($350.00) out of East Greenwich Municipal Court pursuant to a motor vehicle stop at East South Avenue/Central Avenue. Cook was transported to Headquarters, processed and released on posted bail.

March 23, 2014 12:34 a.m.

Salvador Mejia-Guzman, 55, of Scotch Plains was arrested for driving while intoxicated pursuant to a motor vehicle stop in the 600 block of West North Avenue. Mejia-Guzman was transported to Headquarters, processed, and released to a responsible adult.

March 24, 2014 11:20 a.m.

Report of the theft of a piece of jewelry valued at $6,000.00 and a Canadian passport from a residence in the 400 block of Otisco Drive. The victim reports that on October 17, 2013 she noticed that two items were missing. There was no forced entry into the house and the victim reported that she may know the suspect responsible for the theft.

March 26, 2014 11:03 a.m.

Mathew Piedl, 27, of Springfield was arrested as the result of a motor vehicle stop for a $106.00 Westfield Municipal Court Traffic Warrant. Bail was posted and waiver was signed.

March 26, 2014 4:41 p.m.

A merchant in the business district reports that two females posing as customers entered her store and while pretending to shop stole her wallet containing cash and credit cards.

March 26, 2014 7:35 p.m.

Daniel Marrero of Roselle was arrested at Roselle Police Department on an outstanding Westfield warrant. Marrero was processed and held for court.

March 26, 2014 8:51 p.m.

A business owner in the 200 block of Lenox Avenue reports being the victim of a theft when two females entered her store. Victim states that one suspect distracted her while the second suspect stood in the front of the store by the counter. The first suspect then purchased items with a credit card that was later reported stolen. Furthermore, the victim states that she discovered that two credit cards were missing from her wallet. The credit cards were later used fraudulently.

March 27, 2014 9:28 a.m.

A resident in the 700 block of Fairacres Avenue reported a theft of $15,050.00 in jewelry after a delivery company left the home. There are no known suspect(s) at this time.

March 27, 2014 11:01 a.m.

Christopher Denker, 28, of Toms River was arrested at Police Headquarters for an outstanding Union County Sheriff’s Criminal Warrant. Denker was taken into custody without incident and no bail can be accepted. Denker was at Police Headquarters for an unrelated matter at time of arrest.
