WESTFIELD, NJ — A Connecticut woman is in jail tonight, charged with theft, credit card theft and fraudulent use of a credit card in connection to an illegal spending spree that took place in Downtown Westfield March 26. Tabatha Garofalo, 31, and another woman—who one victim described as looking so pregnant that she was “ready to pop”— allegedly distracted two merchants while posing as customers, stole a wallet from one and credit cards from another, then went shopping around town.

Garofalo was remanded to the county jail when she couldn’t post the $35,000 bail, according to Captain Scott Rodger of the Westfield Police Department.  Her court date is set for April 11.

But that’s just in Westfield.

Garofalo turned herself in to authorities in Springfield, NJ, on Friday for similar charges in that town.  According to a story on NJ.com, Garofalo has also been linked to crimes in Raritan, Watchung, Flemington, Green Brook, Millburn, Readington and Union in New Jersey, as well as in New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

When he spoke to police in Connecticut, said Rodger, “They were very familiar with her.”

The identity of her alleged accomplice in Westfield that day is still unknown, he said.
