WEST ORANGE, NJ - Area residents that enjoy the Verona Boathouse, frequently used for meetings and events, can expect to see another round of improvements to the building as announced by Essex County Executive Joe DiVincenzo on April 15.

Along with Verona Town Manager Joseph Martin and Verona Councilmen Frank Sapienza and Kevin Ryan, DiVincenza detailed plans for the renovation, to be completed by the end of summer 2014.

There are three sections to the Boathouse: a large meeting room; the central part of the building for events; and a kitchen area. The facilities and its infrastructure will be modernized with the installation of French doors leading out onto the deck and park; building a new patio and seating area on the park side of the building; installation of new windows, flooring, walls, painting, light fixtures, and furniture; roof repairs; installations of a new HVAC system and fireplace; and landscaping.

“Since taking office in 2003, we have made improvements in every one of our parks to ensure the public has access to first-class facilities. This renovation project will modernize the building and provide more welcoming accommodations for our seniors and other members of the public who meet, gather and enjoy the park,” DiVincenzo said.

Aramark, the food vendor for the venue, commissioned T+ Associates of Philadelphia to design the improvements, and Unity Construction from Sayreville, NJ, was awarded the contract for $433,310 to perform the construction work. The Essex County Department of Public Works reviewed the design and will monitor the project to ensure it stays on schedule.

Once completed the Boathouse will be open year-round.  During the construction, the large meeting room will remain open.

The project is being funded through the Essex County Capital Budget.
