The VernonsOwn foundation would like to welcome TheAlternativePress (TAP) to Vernon, NJ and its immediate surrounding area. VernonsOwn has offered and sponsored the VernonsOwn.com site as a place to share, inform, learn,
teach, and more. about Vernon. It is a site dedicated to our town. Its of the people, for the people, and by the people of Vernon, NJ! To that end they also created a "Voices of Vernon" forum and sponsor the VoV live internet and SECTV cable show. Recently with the help of the VTA (Vernon Taxpayers Association) the site now has Vernon Township council meetings and MUA (Municipal Utility Authority) meetings along with other township events IE yearly tree lighting & Memorial Day footage.

TAP likewise is concerned about helping to provide "local" coverage and information sharing to our township. Its byline (subheading) states “Your Neighborhood News Online” and provides a locally focused venue. It was founded in 2008 at which time the site covered just two towns.  It now covers sixteen towns in New Jersey and is accredited by the New Jersey Press Association. They are committed to all things local – Shop Local – Read Local.  Indeed Vernon now has a local section covering our local town meetings, events, advertising, and news.

Part of how they accomplish this and strive to maintain a "local" focus is by offering locally franchised news areas using local reporters. Additionally they allow and are encouraging local contributors to add to their on line content. This is the first of such content by the VoV/VernonsOwn.

We recently met with the editor for our area, Jennifer Jean Miller, to discuss concerns and hopes for this relatively new to our area on line media source. She is cognizant of concerns that people have with all reporting be it paper, digital, video, televised, or over the radio air waves. It is her desire, our words, to bring back "good reporting" versus "media hyping" and is assembling a local team for Vernon to do that. We have had the pleasure of meeting with and chatting with two of her reporters so far and believe they will live up to that desire with her personal and editorial coaching. She struck as an individual that would prefer to be a "coach" than a "boss".

So VernonsOwn is hopeful and thankful for another source of information for us and our township. We think TAP will be a worthwhile addition to the other media coverage Vernon currently has.

Editor's Note: And TAP thanks VernonsOwn for the warm and wonderful welcome!
