Vernazza's 1:57.7 Leads Chatham to 4x800 School Mark at Group 3 Meet

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - Chatham's 4x800 relay team of Dominic Vernazza, Andrew Vena, Parth Shah and Kevin Gesell ran 7:58.57 to break their own school record in the event and qualified for the Meet of Champions on Friday when they finished second at the NJSIAA Group 3 track championships.

Vernazza's 1:57.7 led the way for Chatham in the 4x800 as Vena clocked 158.4, Gesell ran 1:59.4 and Parth crossed in 2:03. The team will compete in the Meet of Champions Wednesday at South Plainfield. The same four athletes set the Chatham school record of 8:04 in the event at the 2013 Group 3 m

Chatham's John Walsh placed ninth in the long jump at the meet, but set the school record in the event with a leap of 21 feet, two inches, which is two inches longer than the school mark he tied the previous week at the sectional meet.
