Vehicles Stolen, Arrests Made for Marijuana in Westfield

Mar. 12, 2013 1:31 p.m.

A resident in the 1100 block of Boynton Avenue reported their vehicle stolen by a known acquaintance.

Mar. 13, 2013 12:59 p.m.

A resident in the 400 block of Prospect Street reported an incident of identity theft by the filing of a fraudulent tax return.

Mar. 17, 2013 12:20 a.m.

Christian D. Landry, 19, of Westfield was arrested and charged with possession of Marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. Landry was stopped at a DWI checkpoint at which time a further investigation led to his arrest. He was transported to the Westfield Police Department, processed and released on summonses.

Mar. 17, 2013 12:22 a.m.

Marlene Andrews, 49, of Roselle was arrested and charged with DWI. Andrews was stopped at a DWI checkpoint at E. South Avenue/Windsor Avenue. A further investigation led to her arrest. She was transported and released to the Westfield Police Department, processed and released to a sober adult.

Mar. 17, 2013 1:42 a.m.

Allington B. Stevens, 42, of Piscataway was arrested for possession of Marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. Stevens was stopped at a DWI checkpoint at E. South Avenue/Windsor Avenue. A further investigation led to his arrest. He was transported to the Westfield Police Department, processed and released on a summons.

Mar. 17, 2013 4:19 a.m.

Jamil T. Simmons, 19, and a 17-year-old male juvenile, both of Newark, were arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and eluding after a brief motor vehicle pursuit that ended in the area of First Street/Marion Avenue. Officers attempted to execute a motor vehicle stop at which time the 2004 Hyundai the subjects were occupants in resisted arrest by increasing their vehicle's speed in an attempt to elude the officers. A brief motor vehicle pursuit ensued when the Hyundai crashed into two parked vehicles in the area of First Street /Marion Avenue.

Three suspects fled from the fleeing vehicle, at which time a foot-pursuit ensued. Jamil Simmons was apprehended shortly after the crash. The 17-year-old juvenile was apprehended approximately an hour after the crash in the area of the South Side Train Station.

After a further investigation it was determined that the vehicle the suspects were in was stolen from Roselle. Attempts to locate the third suspect were negative and the matter is currently under investigation by the Westfield Police Department Detective Bureau. Jamil Simmons was processed and committed to the Union County Jail with bail set at $25,000. No 10% alternative. The 17-year-old juvenile was released to a parent with charges pending.

Mar. 20, 2013 12:19 a.m.

Gregory L. Avena, 33, and Nicholas S. Derosa, 25, both of Westfield, were arrested for possession of CDS/Marijuana under 50 grams following an motor vehicle stop at Boulevard and Park Street. Both suspects were released with summonses pending a court date of April 4th, 2013.
