Update: Shooting, Now Being Called 'Not Accidental,' at Scotch Plains Home Remains Under Investigation

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Police have filed charges against 28-year-old Robert Dietz following the shooting at 1988 Church Ave. in Scotch Plains on Tuesday morning, Feb. 18.

According to Union County Prosecutor's Office spokesperson Mark Spivey, the defendant is charged with third-degree aggravated assault, fourth-degree pointing a loaded firearm at another person, and fourth-degree possession of a high-capacity magazine.

A search of the home resulted in the seizure of 92 firearms, and many of the seized weapons were legally owned and registered.

The victim, also named Robert Dietz, 65, was rushed to University Hospital in Newark following the shooting and since has been treated and released.
