NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – A key member of both the New Providence and Gov. Livingston High School athletic departments has been reported missing.
Andrew Silvagni, the head girls’ basketball coach at Gov Livingston High School, has been missing since Friday, according to a missing person report filed by his parents with the New Providence Police Department.
The lifelong New Providence resident was last seen at 6 p.m. on Monday night, Jan. 27, at a friends' house in Kenilworth, NPPD Capt. Wayne Maurer said. However, police still consider him a missing person until he speaks with an officer.
"At this time, we have not uncovered any information to indicate that foul play was involved in his disappearance," said Det. Don Sretnovic of the New Providence Police Department.
He was last seen wearing a navy blue windbreaker/sweatshirt and dark pants. NPPD believe he was driving a black 2014 Honda CR-V with license plate number: X31DUW.
Berkeley Heights Public Schools Judy Rattner confirmed the report but said the New Providence Police Department is currently investigating the situation.
Anyone who comes in contact with Silvagni is urged to call their local authorities or the New Providence Police Department at 908-665-1111.
Silvagni, who is currently in his seventh season at GL, last coached the Highlanders to a 53-43 victory over Linden on Thursday. He was not present at Gov. Livingston's Friday team practice or at Saturday's loss to Summit. JV coach and varsity assistant Rob Ritter has taken the reigns of the team, with freshman coach Terry Hanratty moving up to lead the JV squad.
He has led the Highlanders to a Union County Tournament championship in each of the last two seasons. The team is currently 8-7, however GL dropped Saturday’s game to Summit without Silvagni on the sideline.
The New Providence High School graduate also serves as the Pioneer football team’s defensive coordinator, as well as the school’s JV baseball coach.
